Kauffman School Sparkles

The Southtown Council Beautification Committee is pleased to recognize the new Ewing Marion Kauffman School, 6401 Paseo Blvd., as the October Sparkle Award recipient. This three-school campus is located on the site formerly occupied by the Nazarene World Headquarters.

The middle school building on the northwest portion of the campus reused much of the external structure of the church’s headquarters. It opened in August 2013 along with a new building housing both a gymnasium and cafeteria/commons area. The third and final building, which will function as a high school, is under construction on the campus’ south end and will open in time for the 2014-15 school year. The campus utilizes environmentally friendly design techniques including natural lighting and extensive landscaping.

New Face at the Southtown Planning Center

MollyMolly HamidI love all things Kansas City and I always have. So, I did not hesitate when I was given the opportunity to intern at Southtown Council. As a senior at The University of Missouri Kansas City, my concentration of Neighborhood and Community development is continuously cultivated under the leadership of Marti Lee. And when I’m not following Marti around or buried under a mound of schoolwork, I can be found working for my parents’ company, Oasis Food Products, producing and delivering the first local hummus in Kansas City, Mohamed’s World’s Greatest.

Although my schedule keeps me busy, Southtown offers a wealth of experiences to further my understanding in my chosen area of study. Already, I have witnessed the passion and dedication of citizens and business owners to their neighborhoods and the organization it takes to make these neighborhoods successful.
