What a privilege it is to serve as President of the Southtown Council! I follow in the footsteps of many wonderful people who have had a lasting imprint on this organization, most recently, Phyllis Collins, who led with class and grace as we negotiated the new waters of new leadership at our Executive Director position. We cannot thank her enough for her guidance.
Southtown Council celebrates 35 years as an active civic organization in Kansas City. As you walk through the Brookside shops, explore the exciting changes occurring on Troost, marvel at the redevelopment of the east 63rd St corridor, you can’t help but think about where we have come from. And I could not be more excited about where we are going as well!
There is new development happening right now at 51st and Brookside Blvd. There are new market-rate residences about to break ground south of the Baptist/Research Brookside campus. A renewed energy behind the 63rd and Prospect corridor that has been eager for its new life to begin. Change is occurring all around us.
But also what makes Southtown great is the neighborhoods. Property values are up and people are choosing to live, work and stay in our area. And with the Three Trails Cerner complex growing, we can be sure to see more and more new faces on our streets.
A community is only as strong as its members and we at Southtown Council consider all of us important stakeholders in our growth and sustainability. There are many ways for us to connect with each other. AM and PM networking gatherings each month. Our Community Police Action Committee (CPAC) where our city’s finest update us on the safety and security of our area, every second Tuesday afternoon. Planning and Development committees where we discuss how our area can grow. Public Affairs committee where we strive to be a conduit to our elected officials. Opportunities to connect are there!!
For over 35 years, Southtown has been a stable, driving force in the promotion of our area. Join us as we celebrate the past and lay the groundwork for our future!
