Summer Tutors Needed

Make room in your plans for the Upper Room this summer! The Swope Corridor Renaissance/Upper Room Inc. is a neighborhood-based non-for-profit organization providing high-quality out-of-school education programs to low-income families in the urban area of Kansas City, MO. Their mission is “Education for Life.”

ABOPT-ABLE

Purge your home of antifreeze, batteries, oil, paint, tires (ABOPT) and brush, leaves, and electronics (ABLE) on Saturday, June 7th from 8a-noon at the Robert Mohart Center, 3200 Wayne (just east of Paseo). Household waste only, no businesses. Proof of residency is required for tires, leaves and brush. Space is limited. First come, first served.

Delicious “Taste of Southtown

The 18th annual Southtown Business Exchange provided another great opportunity for people throughout the metropolitan area to meet and network. The first “Springboard to Success” event (as it was originally called) was held at the Landing Mall. Over time, the event moved to St. John’s Center, then to Cleveland Chiropractic College and now was held at Alphapointe at 75th and Prospect.

Renovation leads to Sparkle Award

The Mary L. Kelly Community Center opened three months ago in the once vacant Graceland Elementary School at 2803 E. 51st St. The center was made possible by a donation from Joe and Jeanne Brandmeyer. They named the facility after Mary L. Kelly, a long-time resident and former president of Town Fork Creek Neighborhood (TFC).
