Three women from Research Medical Center were among those honored at this year’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s Black Achievers Awards. The recipients were chosen based on their workplace achievement, personal education and contribution to the community. The honorees were Founder and current physician of Southtown’s Women’s Healthcare, Dr.
A Public Affairs Committee has been created resulting from ideas generated at the annual board retreat of Waldo, Southtown, and Brookside. The committee is open to any members. Five board members- Marie Jennings (Stowers Institute), Pat Keeling (Blue Hills Neighborhood), Bill Egelhoff (Egelhoff & Associates), Madeline Romious (AT&T), and Bill Kalahurka (Kalahurka Management) serve as committee members from Southtown.
Bugs, birds, carnivores and more. Those are only a few of the critters patrons can now ride at the Zoo on the new Endangered Species Carousel. Thirty-six, hand-carved wooden animals grace the traditionally-styled carousel. Most depict an endangered species, many of them on exhibit at the Kansas City Zoo.
The Southtown Council Beautification and Community Improvement Committee selected Walk on Water Ministries International, 6040 Troost Ave., for the June Southtown Sparkle Award. Founders Pastor Andre Huskey and Pastor Moris Wyatt, Jr. are doing it all! They recently acquired this vacant building at 61st and Troost and are personally making all the renovations. The interior has a new sanctuary and foyer area, a youth center, and even a special fountain.
The Police Athletic League of KC (PAL) is hosting this year’s National PAL Basketball Tournament beginning June 25 on the campuses of UMKC and Rockhurst University.More than 500 visitors are expecte
