Letter from the Southtown Council President…...

Robin JordanRobin Jordan I am privileged to provide leadership and guidance as Southtown’s new President. In 2014, I look forward to working with the board, community and Council staff. My number one priority is to ensure our members and the community at-large continue to feel the support and benefits through the initiatives of the Southtown Council organization.

I moved to the KC area three years ago to work for the YMCA of Greater KC and serve at the Cleaver Family YMCA, 7000 Troost Avenue. Upon arriving to the area, I was told this area was a very tight knit community and could be difficult to get connected or be accepted. That has not been my experience at all. I must say, this has been one of the most welcoming communities of the many communities where I have lived and worked.

I believe the key to my successful transition to the KC area is being a member of the Southtown Council. Through my involvement, I have been able to connect with other businesses and organizations, share the Y story, and promote healthy living. True to the mission, Southtown Council created opportunities to be involved, understand the community and its needs, challenges, provided venues, ability to meet business owners as well as residents. As a result, I have been able to establish collaboration and meaningful partnerships.

The benefits of membership to the Southtown Council are endless and priceless. The Troost Community Improvement District is a great example of seeing the Council in action. The initiatives of the CID have already been noticed and appreciated by those who live in and visit our community. The Troost Titans and Troopers are working hard to keep our neighbors clean and safe.

My focus is to increase member involvement and participation, inspire all members to attend networking events, monthly luncheons, and community functions. I will work diligently to demonstrate the value of membership, support the initiatives and strategies of the Troost CID, and will continue to work closely with the city and government officials to develop partnerships which will lead to securing the funding needed to support the enhancement efforts and vision in our Southtown community. I feel blessed to be a part of the Southtown community; it truly is a great place to work, do business and live. Submitted by Robin Jordan, President
