Redevelopment by Gates – Sparkles!

[img_assist|nid=255|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=200|height=153] After contending with loitering, trash, and other negative activities occurring at Tony’s Liquors, Gates BBQ decided to purchase the building at 4541 Paseo and clean up the property. The building has been completely refurbished both inside and out. New heating and air conditioning, lighting, and flooring were installed. The roof was repaired, building painted inside and out, and new windows and doors were added. A new concrete parking lot and landscaping were also added.

New Labor & Delivery Wing Opens

As part of Research Medical Center’s $92 million capital expenditures, a new Women’s Services Labor and Delivery Wing was recently opened at the hospital. This completes the first phase of construction for the Women’s Services. Work will begin immediately on the second wing. When the project is completed, Research will have 16 labor and delivery rooms, 6 post-partum rooms and three observation rooms. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is also back to a Level III status at this time.

Waldo Fall Festival

The 15th Annual Waldo Fall Festival is Saturday, September 15 from 10am to 5pm in the Osco Parking lot at 75th and Wornall Rd. The day begins with the formal dedication of the Waldo Fountain followed with a day of fun with children’s rides, a tent full of area vendors, food booths, and entertainment throughout the day. Following is the Annual Waldo Falldo Crawldo Pub Crawl featuring seven participating establishments: Lew’s Grill and Bar, Waldo Pizza, Tanners, Bobby Baker’s, Waldo Bar and Grill, Kennedy’s and 75th St. Brewery.

Southtown Working on Board Nominations

The Southtown Nominating Committee has begun working on the board members and officers for 2008. The 24 Board members serve for a two year term with a maximum of 3 terms. The board meets every other month on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:15am. The board is made up of small and large business owners, institutional representatives, and neighborhood association leaders. The officers serve for a one-year term.
